Tips for Choosing a Car Rental Company in China Tips for Choosing a Car Rental Company in China
Posted on April 12,2009
When it comes to choosing a car rental company in China, there are several important factors to be considered. The following are tips that will help get you started, and bring you that much closer to making your decision.

The first thing you will need to know is the terms and conditions for renting a car in your area, or in the location where the car will be driven. This applies to both renting a car and renting a car service. The two most important are that the driver must be a certain age, and must carry a legal driver’s license. Others will be specified by different areas. In some cases, a credit check may be implemented.

Most car rental companies in China will not accept a cash deposit for renting a vehicle. This is because car hires and rental companies need a guarantee of payment for the services they will render, so you will be required to use a credit card in order to make your deposit. As stated above, a credit check may be run before the transaction is even put through, and you may be rejected if that check shows you to have bad credit.

Know the size vehicle you will need. This will most likely depend on the number of people traveling with you, and where you are going. If you will be driving on rough terrain, you will want a vehicle equipped to handle it. If you are driving around a city, a smaller car might work for you.

Know how much you are willing to spend on rental fees. The cost can sometimes vary greatly from one company to another, so it really pays to check around before actually making a decision.

If more than one company offers you the same or a similar price, compare the services each offers. Also check the types of cars each company has available. The last thing you want is to get stranded in a car that was doomed from the beginning. Most car rental companies perform a regular check of their vehicles, so this may not be an issue. Know the terms of each company, and be sure they are clearly understood. This will help you through the process from beginning to end.

Be careful When Renting Cars in China Be careful When Renting Cars in China
Posted on March 19,2009
Many foreign want to rent a car in China but they don't know the things which should be considered when rent a car. The following will give you useful information on renting a car in China.

Your Rights When You Reserve a Rental Car in China
If you have reserved a car and the company does not have the car you reserved available for you, the company must do everything it can to find you a different car from its fleet. If the only available car is more expensive, you don’t have to pay the higher rate. If no car is available, you can rent from another company or take a taxi and then seek reimbursement from the original car rental company.

Making a reservation is a two-way street. Nearly all rental car companies charge penalties for four-wheel drives, minivans, convertibles and other specialty rentals if you fail to cancel a reservation in advance or are a no-show. Some companies are testing similar policies on their standard rental cars.

Requirements to Rent a Car in China
Virtually all rental car companies will refuse to rent to certain people. Here are the three most common groups that have trouble renting a car: Young drivers, people without credit or debit cards and people with bad driving records.
Instead of screening you, some rental car companies may require you to sign a statement that says you have an acceptable driving record. If you have an accident and signed a statement that turns out to be incorrect, the rental car company could use it against you by claiming that you acted in violation of the rental agreement.

Rental Rates and Fees
Rental car companies charge rental fees as well as many other special fees and charges. Here’s the low-down:

1.   Rental Rates
Rental car companies usually charge rental rates per day of the week. The rate may include unlimited mileage. Or, you may be charged per mile for each mile over a certain limit. Many companies offer lower rates for weekend or week-long rentals. Also, members of organizations, such as the American Automobile Association, often can get discounted rates.

2.   Other Fees and Charges
Most car rental companies tack on a number of additional fees and charges. They must notify you of these fees before you sign the rental agreement. Here are the ones you’re most likely to encounter: fees for renting at Beijing airport, additional driver fees, young driver fees, child safety seat fees, vehicle drop-off fees, refueling charges and others.
How to Save money on Renting Car in China How to Save money on Renting Car in China

Don’t you think renting a car in China is a little expensive sometimes? There are some tips to save money when you rent a car.

Make your reservation as soon as you have decided on plans. Most Rental Car Companies increase their rates as reservations come in and their fleets become booked. Also, certain classes of cars will sell out and you may have to end up reserving and paying for a larger vehicle than you want.

Being flexible about your travel plans can save you money. Rental Companies that focus on the business or replacement market customers often have great weekend specials. The best rates are found during the off season and at other times when the Rental Companies have extra cars sitting around.

Check into booking your vacation as a package. You might be able to save by booking your car along with a certain airline, hotel or attraction ticket package.

Book the smallest car that you will need and hope for a free upgrade. But, remember you may get stuck with that small car.

Check into other size class vehicles. They may have extra cars in a certain class and be offering discounts for that size class.

Use coupons but read them carefully for exceptions. Most upgrade coupons are "based on availability", so if you have an upgrade coupon that you wish to use and also have a monetary discount coupon, bring them both. If they can honor the upgrade, they may still give you the monetary discount. Also, remember to book any coupons or discounts in your reservation. Apply any special discount programs for which you are eligible.

When you get to the counter, ask if there are any upgrade specials available, they might have some good deals.

FAQs for China Visa FAQs for China Visa
Posted on March 14,2009

Q1: When is the best time to apply for my Chinese visa?

The best time to apply for your Chinese visa is 1-2 months before your travel date. However, if you are running short on time, we can process your visa in 1 business day. For example, if you overnight your application to us on Monday, you can have it back in your hand on Wednesday morning with our same-day rush service.

Q2: How long is a Chinese visa valid for?

The Chinese Consulate now automatically issues 1-year multiple entry visas to US passport holders except in certain special situations. With a 1-year multi-entry visa, your visa is valid for 12 months from date of issue, and you can enter China any time during the 12 months while the visa is valid.

Q3: How long can I stay in China with a Chinese visa?

The time you could actually stay in China or "duration of stay after entry" is usually 60 days. However, a maximum of 90-day duration of stay is available upon request. To get 90-day duration of stay, you must write down such number on the Chinese Visa Application Form. If you did not specify the number of days on this form, you will be allowed 60 days. Please be reminded that the Chinese Consulate has the final say on the number of days you receive for your visa regardless of your request.

Q4: Do I have to send you my passport? Is it safe to send a passport?

Yes. You will need to send your actual passport, not a copy of it. The Chinese visa is pasted on your passport and will become one of your passport pages. Visa request cannot be processed without your original passport. Because of the importance of your passport as a travel document, we strongly suggest that you send your application in a secure way, using a traceable courier such as FedEx, UPS, DHL, Express Mail or Certified Mail. Please note that certified mail could take 7-10 business days to deliver.

Q5: I need Chinese visa for two people. Can I send them in one package? How should I calculate the fees?

When you send in application for more than one person, you could send all applications in one package. If all passports are to be returned to the same address, you need to pay only one FedEx return shipping charge. Chinese Consulate fees and our service fees, however, are on a per person basis.

Q6: Can I use my own FedEx account number for return shipping?

You are welcome to use your own FedEx account number for return shipping. To do that, you could either include a prepaid FedEx air bill or write down your FedEx account number on our Order Form.

Q7: I will travel between Hong Kong and the mainland multiple times. Do I need a multiple entry visa?

Yes, you do need a multiple entry visa for that purpose. Each time you enter China from Hong Kong and Macao, you need one entry.

Q8: I'm not a US citizen. Can you still process my visa application?

We help citizens of all countries get a Chinese visa if they are legally residing in the United States. Non-US citizens must submit a copy of their green card or valid US visa in addition to their original passport.

Q9: Do I need a visa for Hong Kong and Macao?

US citizens as well as citizens of most countries in North America and Europe can visit Hong Kong and Macao without a visa. Citizens of other countries can check the Hong Kong government website to see if you need a visa. You can also call us for such information.

Q10: I'm going to China on January 1, and my visa expires on January 10. Can I still stay for 30 days?

Yes, you can. As long as you enter China on or before the expiration date, you can stay for 30 or more days as specified on your visa. The duration of stay starts from the day you enter China.
