Welcome to Tianjin International School
The Tianjin International School was founded in 1985 to provide an American educational program for the children of MTI employees. Classes began in the fall of 1986 in temporary classrooms at the Tianjin Grand Hotel Conference Center.
Initially there were thirty students in the school with two more enrolling during the next two months. There were thirteen students in the elementary division and nineteen students in the secondary division. The first faculty consisted of six full-time teachers and several part-time teachers.
In May of 1987, the school moved to the eighth floor of the InterTech Building. In 1991, the school began to enroll children of expatriates living and working in Tianjin or its surrounding environs.
The school quickly outgrew its classroom space at the ITC Building and moved to the Xing Guo Junior High School building in 1993. During the summer of 2000, TIS moved into the Sun Hope facility, a new building that provided much-needed room for expansions of its programs. Since that time the school has continued to grow and now rents the entire facility on a long-term basis. The current building contains room for the student body to expand by another 40 percent.
Tianjin International School has been building a solid foundation in education since 1986. We seek to provide an educational experience that integrates the Christian world view with a rigorous academic program. The Tianjin International School is a private school sponsored by MTI, Inc., an American non-profit corporation.
Tianjin International School provides elemantary curriculum, secondary curriculum and college preparation.
In cooperation with the Tianjin Municipal Education Commission, the school offers an English-language based Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12 program for expatriate students of all religions, races, and national backgrounds. TIS offers an American curriculum and system of instruction that is college preparatory in both scope and level of difficulty. Tianjin International School is more than just a school; it is a partnership with parents to provide quality education for young minds.
